Where can I get an application form?

Applications can be found on the Horizon Hey You website, or by visiting the Department of Volunteer Resources at your local facility for an application package.

Is there a minimum age to volunteer?

Yes, applicants must be 15 years old. Please note: Application requirements for high school student programs vary across Horizon, please check your local volunteer office for more information.

What is the time commitment to volunteer?

You will be asked for a commitment of at least 6 months, volunteering once a week for 2 to 4 hours. (Length of shift depends on the assigned position.)

Am I guaranteed a volunteer position if I apply?

Volunteer placement will depend on the needs of the facility and your skill set, preferences, and availability.

Does Horizon Health Require Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Checks?

All selected volunteers, 18 and over will be asked to complete a criminal reference/vulnerable sector check. The department of volunteer resources will provide you with the paperwork to have this completed.

Does Horizon Health require proof of immunization?

Volunteers who have direct patient contact (for example – paediatrics, oncology or friendly visiting) will be required to provide proof of immunization against certain communicable diseases prior to starting as a volunteer.

When are volunteers needed?

We have a greater need for volunteers from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, however, there are some evening/weekend programs available.

What if my schedule changes?

We will try our best to work with your schedule based on the availabilities of our programs.
